Three percentage answers at once — X% of Y, X as a percent of Y, and the change between two numbers.
Your browser is preparing the tool. It runs 100% locally.
This percentage calculator solves the three questions people actually ask, on one screen: what is X% of Y, X is what percent of Y, and the percentage increase or decrease from one number to another. Type your numbers and each answer updates live, with increases shown in green and decreases in red. It is exact arithmetic, runs in your browser, and nothing is uploaded.
Percentages come up constantly — a discount, a tip, a test score, a price change — and the calculation flips depending on what you are asking. This tool lays out the three common forms together so you do not have to remember which is which.
Each section is independent: fill in the one you need and read the answer. The percentage-change row also tells you the direction, colouring a rise green and a fall red, so a quick glance gives you the sign as well as the size.
The first answer multiplies: X% of Y is (X ÷ 100) × Y. The second divides: X as a percent of Y is (X ÷ Y) × 100. The third measures relative change: (To − From) ÷ From × 100, which is positive for an increase and negative for a decrease.
Every box recalculates the moment you change a number, so you can explore what-if values instantly without pressing anything.
X% of Y = (X ÷ 100) × Y
X is what % of Y = (X ÷ Y) × 100
Change (From → To) = (To − From) ÷ From × 10015% of 200 = 3050 is 25% of 200100 → 125 = +25% (and 125 → 100 = −20%)Percentage change is relative to the From value, so increases and decreases are not symmetric — a rise from 100 to 125 is +25%, but the way back from 125 to 100 is −20%.
| Modes | X% of Y · X is what % of Y · % change |
|---|---|
| Outputs | Each answer live; change shows sign + colour |
| Rounding | Display rounded to two decimals |
| Inputs | Plain numbers (no currency assumed) |
| Compute | Live in your browser — no upload |
The results are exact arithmetic, not estimates — the only rounding is the two-decimal display, so a repeating value like a third of a percent shows as 0.33.
Mind the asymmetry of percentage change: a rise from 100 to 125 is +25%, but the drop back from 125 to 100 is −20%, because the base is different each way. A 50% loss needs a 100% gain to recover.
Percentages do not simply add when applied in sequence: two successive 10% increases give 21%, not 20%, because the second is taken on the larger amount.
If a denominator is zero — Y in the first two, or the From value in the change — the percentage cannot be defined, since it would divide by zero.
Find 15% of a bill, or 20% off a price, in one step.
Turn X out of Y into a percentage for a grade or a proportion.
Measure how much a value rose or fell between two points.
Tweak a number and watch all three answers update instantly.
For growth that compounds each period, use a compound-interest calculator; for tax add-ons, use a GST calculator; for a loan, use the EMI calculator.
Covers all three modes the tool actually runs — including the honest asymmetry that a 25% rise and a 25% fall do not cancel out.
