What the Tip Calculator Does

How It Works
The tip is simply the bill multiplied by the percentage — 10% of ₹1,500 is ₹150 — and the total is the bill plus the tip. The per-person amount divides that total by the number of people (at least one), so a ₹1,650 total split two ways is ₹825 each.
Because the tip is a flat percentage of the figure you type, the result depends on whether that figure is the pre-tax subtotal or the after-tax total. The calculator does not separate tax; you control which base you tip on by what you enter.

Assumptions
- The tip is calculated on the amount you type. If that figure includes tax, you are tipping on the tax too; enter the pre-tax subtotal to follow the usual convention.
- The bill is split evenly between everyone. It does not divide by who ordered what, so for an itemised split you would work out each share separately.
- Any existing service charge or auto-gratuity is not detected. If the bill already adds a gratuity for a large party, you usually do not tip again on top.
- The percentage is exactly what you enter — the calculator does not suggest a customary amount, since that varies by country and service.
- Figures are rounded to two decimals, so the per-person shares may not add back to the exact total by a rounding unit.
