This tool takes a set of numbers and summarises them: the mean, which is the total divided by how many there are, and the median, which is the value in the middle when they are sorted. It also shows the sum, the smallest and largest values, and the count.
It is the quick way to make sense of a list of figures — test scores, prices, measurements — without a spreadsheet, and to compare the mean against the median to spot when a few extreme values are pulling the average.
The tool reads every number from your text, however you separate them, then adds them up and divides by the count to get the mean. For the median, it sorts the numbers and takes the middle one — or the average of the two middle ones if there is an even count.
Because it picks numbers out of the text directly, you can paste a messy list and it will still find the values. The mean and median are calculated together so you can compare a single average that outliers can distort against a middle value that is far more stable.

When the two differ a lot, outliers are skewing the mean.
The mean, median, sum and range are computed exactly from the numbers you provide, so the results are precise for the list you enter.
It computes the arithmetic mean and the median only — not the mode (most common value), a weighted average, the geometric mean, or measures of spread like standard deviation. For those, a statistics tool or spreadsheet is needed.
It treats every value equally. If some figures should carry more weight, this unweighted average will not reflect that; weight them by repeating values or by calculating a weighted mean separately.
