What the Rounded Corner Image Tool Does
This rounds the four corners of your image by the radius you choose — the soft-cornered look used for avatars, cards and app thumbnails. The corners outside the rounded shape are cut away to transparency.
Because the corners end up transparent, the output has to be a PNG, which supports an alpha channel. Saved as a JPG, the corners would fill with a solid colour instead of showing through.
