Split a bill fairly — add a tip, total it up and divide it evenly between any number of people. The same engine as our tip calculator, framed for sharing the bill. Runs in your browser.
Your browser is preparing the tool. It runs 100% locally.
Enter the bill, a tip percentage and how many people are sharing, and the tip splitter shows the tip, the grand total and the amount each person owes. It tips on the figure you enter — so type the pre-tax subtotal for the usual pre-tax convention — and divides the total evenly. It uses the same calculation as our tip calculator, just framed around splitting the bill. It runs entirely in your browser.
Put in the bill amount, choose a tip percentage and set the number of people, and you get three figures: the tip in money, the total with the tip added, and the per-person share when the total is split evenly. It is the quick way to settle who pays what after a group meal.
The split is even — the total divided by the number of people. It is the same calculation as the tip calculator, presented with the group split front and centre, so the focus is the per-person amount.
The tip is the bill multiplied by the percentage, the total is the bill plus that tip, and the per-person amount is the total divided by however many are sharing (at least one). So a bill of ₹1,500 with a 10% tip split two ways gives a ₹150 tip, a ₹1,650 total and ₹825 each.
It tips on whatever amount you enter. The common convention, especially in the United States, is to tip on the pre-tax subtotal, so enter the figure before tax if you want to follow that. The calculation itself is the same percentage maths in any currency.
tip = bill × (percentage ÷ 100)
total = bill + tip
per person = total ÷ number of people₹1,500 bill, 10% tip, 2 people → ₹150 tip, ₹1,650 total, ₹825 eachThe tip is taken on the amount you enter; for the pre-tax convention, enter the pre-tax subtotal.
The maths is exact for a flat-percentage tip and an even split. What it cannot know is whether the amount you entered is pre-tax or post-tax — that choice is yours, and it changes the tip.
It splits evenly only. If people ordered very differently, an even split may feel unfair; total each person's items separately for an itemised share.
It does not detect a service charge already on the bill. Many places add an 18 to 20 percent gratuity for large groups; if so, you generally should not add another tip — check the bill first.
Customary tip amounts vary by country. The tool applies whatever percentage you choose; what is polite depends on where you are, so set the rate to fit the situation.
It is the same calculation as the tip calculator. If you have used that, the totals match — only the framing, around splitting, differs.
Work out the tip and what each person owes after a shared meal.
Divide a total evenly among friends or colleagues.
Get the per-person figure fast when the bill arrives.
Estimate each person's cost including the tip before ordering.
Need an itemised split? Total each person's items, then apply the tip to each. Want the same tool without the split focus? The tip calculator is the same engine. Removing tax first? Enter the pre-tax subtotal.
Splits a bill by adding a flat-percentage tip and dividing the total evenly; it is the same calculation as the tip calculator, framed for sharing, and is explicit that you control the pre-tax-versus-post-tax base by what you enter, that the split is even (not itemised), and that an existing service charge is not detected.
