What the LinkedIn Banner Resizer Does

1584×396 is an extreme 4:1 letterbox, so a normal photo loses a lot of its height. Your circular profile photo also overlaps the lower-left of the banner, so that corner is partly hidden.
How It Works

How cover-fit cropping works

A 1920×1080 photo → scaled to 1584×891 to cover the banner, then about 248px is cropped from the top and bottom, leaving the central 1584×396.Because the scale is the larger of the two ratios, the picture always fills the whole frame and the excess is trimmed — it never letterboxes. When your source is smaller than the target the scale is above 1, so the image is enlarged and looks softer.
Privacy
Your image is read from disk, redrawn in the page's memory and saved as a PNG entirely on your device. Nothing is uploaded and no copy is kept on a server.
Because the canvas re-encodes the picture, the saved PNG carries no EXIF or GPS metadata from the original — a small privacy bonus. Close the tab and both the original and the result leave memory.

Accuracy & Limitations
Your circular profile photo overlaps the lower-left of the banner (about 200px from the left and 150px from the bottom on desktop, and proportionally larger on mobile), so keep key visuals out of that corner.
The safest place for text is the centre-right, roughly a 1000×250 area, with a margin of about 300px from the left and 150px from the right.
This is the personal profile banner. A LinkedIn company Page cover is a different size (1128×191), which this tool does not make.
