Quick Answer

The Bullet Point Generator turns a block of prose into a bullet list by splitting it at sentence boundaries and putting a bullet in front of each sentence. It keeps your wording exactly — it does not summarise, shorten or rephrase. You get one bullet for every sentence, ready to paste into a doc, slide or email. It runs entirely in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

What the Bullet Point Generator Does

It reformats prose into a scannable list. Each sentence in your text becomes its own bullet, which is handy for turning a paragraph into talking points or a dense email into a tidy set of items.

It is a reformatter, not a summariser. Every sentence is kept word for word; the tool only adds a bullet and a line break. If you want fewer points, you trim them yourself.

How It Works

Paste your text and press the button. The tool finds each sentence, prefixes a bullet, and lists them one per line so the result is copy-ready.

All of this happens in JavaScript on your device. There is no upload, no account, and it works the same on mobile as on desktop.

Generation algorithm

  1. Read your text. It takes whatever you paste, of any length.
  2. Find sentence boundaries. It splits the text wherever a sentence ends with a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark — the same rule a sentence counter uses.
  3. Prefix a bullet. It places a bullet character and a space in front of each sentence and trims any stray spaces.
  4. Output the list. It joins the bullets onto separate lines so you can copy them straight into a document, slide or email. Your sentences are left unchanged.

How a paragraph becomes bullets

For each sentence (text ending in . ! or ?): output one line beginning with a bullet, then the sentence
Worked example
'We launched. It works. Try it!' → • We launched. / • It works. / • Try it!

There is exactly one bullet per sentence — the tool reformats, it does not shorten.

Privacy

Your text is converted to bullets entirely in your browser. Nothing you paste is uploaded, stored or logged.

There is no sign-in and no saved history; closing the tab clears your text.

Standards & references

  • Sentence boundary detection — Bullets are split on sentence-ending punctuation, so the usual caveats of a naive splitter apply — an abbreviation or decimal can create an extra bullet.

Accuracy & Limitations

There is one bullet for every sentence, not for every idea. A long, multi-clause sentence stays a single bullet; three short sentences become three bullets.

It reformats, it does not rewrite. The text inside each bullet is your original sentence, word for word — nothing is shortened or summarised.

Because it splits on punctuation, an abbreviation or decimal such as 3.5 kg can break one sentence into two bullets, and a block with no full stop becomes a single bullet.

It cannot group related sentences into one bullet, nor split a single long sentence into several. The bullet count always equals the sentence count.

Real-World Use Cases

Turning prose into slides

Paste a paragraph from a document and get instant talking points for a slide deck or speaker notes.

Breaking an email into points

Convert a dense message into a scannable list so each point is easy to read and reply to.

Drafting release notes or checklists

Reshape a written description into bullets you can quickly edit down into release notes or a checklist.

Making notes scannable

Reformat study notes or meeting notes so each sentence stands on its own line.

When to use it — and when not to

Good for

  • Reshaping a paragraph into one-bullet-per-sentence points
  • Prepping talking points for slides or notes
  • Making dense text scannable
  • A fast first pass you will edit down by hand

Not the best choice for

  • Summarising or shortening long text
  • Grouping several sentences into one bullet
  • Splitting one long sentence into several points
  • Text full of abbreviations or decimals (extra bullets)

To shorten rather than reformat, use the Text Summarizer — it scores the sentences and keeps only the most important ones. For sentence statistics, use the Sentence Counter.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the bullet point generator do?
It splits your text into sentences and puts a bullet in front of each one, giving you a clean list with one bullet per sentence.
Does it shorten or summarise my text?
No. It keeps every sentence exactly as written and only adds a bullet and a line break. To shorten text, use the Text Summarizer.
How does it decide where to split?
It splits wherever a sentence ends with a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark.
Why did I get more bullets than I expected?
Abbreviations and decimals contain periods, so something like e.g. or 3.5 can be read as a sentence ending and create an extra bullet.
Why is my whole text a single bullet?
If the text has no full stop, question mark or exclamation mark, the tool treats it as one sentence and produces one bullet.
Can it put several sentences into one bullet?
No. The output always has one bullet per sentence.
Can it split one long sentence into several points?
No. It splits on sentence punctuation only, so a single long sentence stays one bullet.
What bullet character does it use?
A standard round bullet followed by a space, which pastes cleanly into most editors.
How is this different from the summariser?
The Text Summarizer scores sentences and keeps only the top few; this tool keeps all of them and simply formats each as a bullet.
Is my text uploaded?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.
Can I copy the bullets?
Yes. The result is plain text with one bullet per line, ready to copy into a doc, slide or email.
Is it free?
Yes, completely free with no sign-up and no limits.

Described against this tool's own code: it splits your text on sentence-ending punctuation and prefixes each sentence with a bullet — so it makes exactly as many bullets as you have sentences, and never changes your words.
